I have heard that Benellis has licensed their design to Stoeger.

The Stoeger 2000 and the Benelli semi-auto's both utilize the same inertia recoil design. I'd bet the Stoeger has a much rougher fit and finish than the Benelli. However, for the price savings it might still be worth it.
I bought my Benelli SBE in '94 and have since sold EVERY 12 gauge shotgun I ever owned. Why have any others when the SBE will do it all...0 -
While I've never owned a SBE, I do own the stoger 2000 in camo. A friend and I both purchased one last year. Haven't had any problems besides the fact that when I tried to replace the front bead it broke off and had to have a gun smith replace it. It is a little rougher and the finish is prone to chipping. It also only accepts up to 3" shells instead of 3 1/2". Not an issue for me. Just a couple of weeks ago Dick's had them on sale for around $300. I certainly couldn't justify spending 3 times the price for the SBE and I haven't been disapointed. 0 -

Besides the price Benellis' are just better guns. One thing about the world of guns that is pretty much true is you get what you pay for.
I own a SBE, a Benelli Legacy and a couple M1 Super 90's. They are all the best built, nicest looking, most accurate and reliable shotguns. Unlike bambihunter, I kept my other shotguns, but I love my Benellis'.
