.17 hrm range report
a couple of days ago some ask about the tragectory of the .17 hrm soooo sat. being a nice day (and the alterative was doing some work) I set up a target and proceded to shoot groups at 50, 75, 100, & 135 yards (as far as I shoot with out moveing a bunch of dirt & trees). any way the rifle is a Marlin hvs with a tasco 6x18 scope mounted 1.625" above bore, ammo is hornady brand. 50 yrds. -1/2", 75 yrds +1/2", 100 yrds 0, 135 yrds. -1". damn flat shooting for any rimfire.

Yes sir it is. I took it on a Wyoming prarie dog hunt this year along with several other long range center fire rifles (22-250 & 223). I had more fun with my Marlin .17VS than anything else. Next year it will be the only rifle I haul out there. It shoots flatter than a .22 mag and has plenty of punch to send the dogs flying.

Mike, Somewhere in the archives of this great site, my results of testing the 17HMR are posted. I tested it all the way to 200. MOST AMAZING THING I'VE MESSED WITH!!! When a rimfire turns in .446" 100 yard groups and .800 200yard groups and kills groundhogs out to a measured, witnessed 236 yards....it's a serious rimfire!! As I've stated before here and will again.....I don't recommend the shooting of large varmints with it over 150 yards unless the rifle and rifleman are intimatly associated!!! Shots below the neck will lead to "crawl-offs"!!! That's not right!!! The 17HMR's I've owned and worked on for others(25) have pretty much been all amazing!!! It has it's place but just don't try to stretch it beyond it's capabilities! The 17HMR rifle deserves a decent peice of glass sitting atop it also!! One that can be dialed with repeatability or use the divisions(read Balistic Plex!) GHD PS: Last Friday and again on Saturdy had the oppurtunity to mess with the 17Mach2. It was a Marlin 917VS and it was sold today(Monday)!! It had accurracy but just not anything else to write home about over a good 22LR!! 0
