ruger 44 carbine
I have a chance to get a ruger 44 carbine on a trade with a serial #5740 I have not seen the gun yet but I'm wondering how much would this gun be worth as I don't need it and would probably sell it and what I trading for it is worth $550 in elctronics that the other party wants.

HELLO ruger barrels at one time had their name and cal roll stamped on the barrel sometime later I can't remember what year they started puting a firearm warning on the barrel they also put a 200th year stamp for one year. If you are buying for investment these marks might change the value but to buy one to shoot if don't mean squat 0 -
Believe the warning was similar to this, "Before using gun - read warnings in instruction manual available free from Sturm Ruger & Co Inc."
My best recollection is that it started showing up on new made Rugers in the late 70's.
The first model 44 Carbine went out of production in the mid 80's. That would date the pre warning carbines from the early 60's to the late 70's.

Lawyer words ... as stated above, for collecting all other factors being equal the gun w/o the warning would be the more desireable. Just like the "flat top" and "3 screw" aspects.

Yes, the above info is fairly correct. I can't remember the exact time they started but I was thinking it was in the early 70's or earlier. It is really a non-issue since you can go to the Ruger website and use the serial number to look up the date of manufacture.
Those .44 carbines are great guns! I sure do love mine (pictured below).0
