cleaning up rust and scratches on a S&W Auto?

I have a 1006 that I want to clean up a little. It has a lot of surface wear, and what I would call contact rust, like it was up against rusty tools in a tool box or something similar. I don't want to polish it, but want to keep a matte type finish like they had from the factory. I had in mind using a brass brush on the bench grinder, Or maybe bead blasting it.

Any thoughts?

  Bead blast should help maintain the matte appearance and done properly provide you with the more uniform finish.

  Bead blast will bring out a matte textured look, but you might have to experiment with different blasting materials to get the factory finish look. However, if you do the whole thing it won't be an issue...
