I have never used a DPMS...I have had an Olympic Arms for years and have never had a problem. 0 -
Due to the shorter barrel, the M4 is generally not a good choice for target work. On that score, the Oly would do better.
Don't let the LEO markings discourage you; BATFE has stated in writing that they are now OK to own. Ex Post Facto laws are Constitutionally prohibited, so no future legislation can get you in trouble for owning it.

If the Oly is an HBAR(Heavy barrel) than you may not want it for plinking, because they really are alot heavier than the 16" carbines. For that reason I really like the M4's, I have one now that is a CMMG/Ameetec and it is really light. I also have a RRA upper with CavArms 14.5" barrel on a Mega lower with a railed forend and it is still lighter than my Oly 20" HBAR. I have a feeling that the HBAR is going to be a dust collector for my safe. here are some pics:

CMMG M4A2
CavArms 14.5"/1.5"
Oly 20" HBAR
Spring 1911-A1
SIG 220
S&W 629 Classic
Ruger MK1
Mossberg 500A
Marlin/Glenfield Mod 60
Mosin-Nagant M380
