Finding the date of manufacture for a firearm?

Is there a site where I can find the date of manufacture of a firearm by using the serial number?

    What type of firearm is it? I know where you can find the "born on" date for Glock; but not sure about others.

    Some of the manufacturers have such a listing on their websites. Most do not. You have to go to the books, such as the Blue Book or speciality books. With most things, you can post the serial number here along with make and model and you will likely get several quick replies of the year of manufacture.

    The rifle I have is an Winchester 1890 .22short pump action rifle. I call it a gallery gun. According to this site it was manufactured in 1894. I found this site http://www.gun-data.com/winchester_Model_1890.htm before anyone had a chance to respond. Thanks anyway.

    I have never played with any pump rifles, but that one could get me interested in going to the range to give it a work out. Nifty little rifle!

    Wow... I thought everyone had shot the greatest shooting .22 caliber slide-action (pump for you unwashed types[:D]) rifle ever invented (by Mr. John M. Browning). Winchester manufactured over 2 million slide-action rifles (the Models 1890, 1906, & 62) over nearly 70 years that were based on John Browning's fabulous patent no. 385238.

    You should be deeply shamed to admit such as terrible short coming in your shooting career[:I][:0][:D]. You are hereby banned from this forum until you rectify this situation by becoming a proud owner (and shooter), of a Winchester slide-action .22 caliber rifle[;)][:D]

    Nice suggestion Bert, I may well do that. Since I was born after semi-autos were invented (did you catch the ever so subtle suggestion as to your own age there?[:p], that is what I got at about 10 or 11. All the rifles I have bought since have been centerfire, though I have, well, a few pistols in .22. Where do you suggest I look?[}:)]

    If you really want a Winchester Model 1890, there are LOTS of them listed in the auction side of GB.

    H.S. 10-X... just a word of caution... never trust the Winchester DOM information on the site you mention above... it is seriously flawed[V].

    If you really want to know what the true DOM is, contact the Cody Firearms Museum, and obtain a factory letter for it - http://www.bbhc.org/firearms/records.cfm
