Mwg/Mitchell 10/22 magazines
I bought one of these magazines today without instructions and believe I may have already messed something up with the spring tension, I was loading it and all of the sudden the key slipped when I had it all the way wound up and now it will not return to its full tension setting, or another way to put it is that it will not return to its original position. Can someone tell me if it can be fixed and also the proper way of loading one of these. Thanks in advance.

I can't tell you if you broke the magazine or not. The inards of the Mitchell seem a lot sturdier than the back cover clasp. I would try to work the pulley back and forth with key to see if that will unjam the spring. The springs are quite strong and hopefully it is just jammed and not broken.
Here is the loading procedure:
1. Unsnap the clear back cover and lside it off the body. Remove the winding key from the center of the magazine.
2. Hook the winding key pins und the tabs on the top of the large pulley.
3. Gentely turn the key counter-clockwise three turns until the belt stops. DO NOT FORCE. The stopping point is when the last round follower, on the belt, cannot go back any further.
4. After reaching the stopping point, hold the tension with the key and place five rounds in the upper left side of the magazine.
5. Slowly release the tension with the key and the rounds will move toward the top.
6. Disengage the key and finish loading round into the cartridge pockets. Stop at the last round follower.
7. The remaining few rounds must be loaded through the top of the magazine. Re-engage the key under the tabs, as before. Hold the magazine in an upright position. You will see the top round as though it is ready to feed into the chamber. Slowly wind the key count-clockwise until you have made enough room for only one round.
8. While holding the tension, load one round into the top. Again, slowly swind the key counter-clockwise enough to make room for one more round. Load one more round into the top. Repeat these two steps until all the remaining rounds have been loaded into the top of the magazine.
9. Disengage the key and place it into its storage slot.
10. slide the back cover on and snap into place.
There was a vendor on this gun auction who was advertising that they would re-build a Mitchell magazine. I do a few searches on the Internet and if I find anything in the way of repair for a Mitchell I will let you know.
