Remington 742 question

I have a Rem 742 that is 280 cal. Can I put a 3006 barrel on it? I know the magazines are interchangable. Thanks for your help.

  You might look around a little. You can probably buy the whole darn gun for the same or less than installing a 3006 barrel.

  Sell or trade the one you have on a nice 30-06. This is the cheapest to get what you want.

  there are a lot of 742 barrels floating around, a couple on e-barf right now. you should be able to pick one up for <$50. make sure you have a 'smith check the headspace.
