Parker Double Barrel 10 gauge
I have a Parker Brothers Double Barrel 10 gauge shotgun. The Barrels are 32 and 1/4 inches long. It is in good condition. The patent says it was patented in 1878. The serial # on the gun is 79708. It belonged to my grandfather and was given to me over 30 years ago. I had an offer from someone to buy the gun from me for $500, but I am not wanting to sell it. Can someone tell me about this gun.

Your old Paker Bros. was made in early 1893, and it undoubtedly has damascus barrels with short chambers. It was designed for blackpowder shells... do NOT attempt to shoot the gun with ANY modern made ammo. I can not tell you if $500 is a realistic value or not. Parker Bros. shotguns were made in many different grades, and each has its own value range. Additionally, all collector grade firearms are valued according to their graded condition. Your Parker was actually shipped sometime in 1894.
The grade should be a "D"- look on the water table for a letter.
The original barrel length was 32"-you added an extra .25".[:)]
The frame size is a number or a number and a fraction and will be stamped on the barrel lug. The weight of the barrels is stamped
under the barrels. It would be impossible to assign a price without
knowing what percent of the original finish and if any alterations were made. You will need to advise the percent of original case colors
on the receiver, original finish on the barrels, barrel conditions,
trigger guard blue, original varnish on the stocks, etc. As this is a
family gun, the value is priceless.0
