Win 97 & L.C. Smith age
Hi all new to this forum. I am looking for a website where I could find a listing of serial#s to determine manuf. dates. A Win 97 525,xxx,30 inch full,last patent July 5 1910 also a L.C. Smith 12 Ga.,30 inch full/mod,hammer,damascus barrel,14,xxx.

First, never trust the serial number to DOM cross reference lists you find on the internet, or written by George Madis (and copied by nearly every other author). If you want the absolute truth about when a Winchester, Marlin, or L.C. Smith was manufactured, contact the Cody Firearms Museum at this link - http://www.bbhc.org/firearms/index.cfm
Unfortunately, your Model 97 Winchester was made too late to research or letter. The surviving original factory ledgers only cover serial numbers up to 377,999. The best I can do is tell you that it was made circa 1912 - 1914. As a side note, it should also be marked Model 1897 versus Model 97.
As for your L.C. Smith, the serial number does not correspond to the description.
Final comment... when discussing old Winchesters, and/or any other colletor grade firearms, please post the complete serial number. Partial serial numbers are almost worthless.

I see where the serial# 14447 does not match the range of hammer models.On the top of the left barrel is L.C. Smith Maker Syracuse N.Y.,on the right is Stub Twist Barrels. The forearm is stamped Pat'd June 1 80. Recv'r underneath the barrels is stamped with patent date of Mar 20 83. All 3 parts have serial# of 14447,receiver marked below barrels and on underside behind trigger guard. This all the markings on this piece.0
