need some help right now

It's regarding the springfield m1a, again. (thanks for everybody's help before as well, it helped a lot).
Theres a new m1 for sale at a nearby gun store, but the handguard on the stock (I think thats the name, its the aluminum part of the stock covering the barrel) has a little play in it. It moves back and forth and kind of rattles a little bit. Is this normal? Is there any way to get rid of it? Should I look elsewhere for my .308 needs?

    A loose handguard is not a problem. Most of them are fiberglass, so they are lighter, more flexible, & probably are less noticeable when they move.

    Personally, I would look for an older rifle if you want a Springfield Inc M1A. The newer the gun, the fewer USGI parts. The parts made by Springfield Inc are not forged, & don't hold up as well as USGI.
