Help buying a rifle

I want a rifle for two reasons - hunting and target shooting.

Idealy, I want to spend anywhere less than $1000, of which anything with 1 MOA or less would be acceptable to me.

Does this sound reasonable? I'm fairly new to firearms and hunting, but am excited to be a part of this community.

    FireSeven; Not wanting to insult you but being a neophyte in each catagory, I strongly suggest you find a experienced person , that knows firearms and also hunting as a by product of same to assist your learning. It would also be a good idea to entertain going to a fire arm saftey school, as put on by local hunting authorities. You will find many guys willing to give you a hand in these endeavors. Its better to be safe than sorry.

    Thanks for the tip! That is a good idea...

    However, I've done quite a bit of research in terms of reading up and in terms of visiting some local places and and discussing the above topics with a couple experts in my area.

    Realistically, I am not a neophyte in any of the "catagories", but I do humbly request more information about what type of accurate rifles some of the more experienced hunters prefer.

    Remington 700 in 308win. Great for hunting and target shooting.

    I don't approve of political jokes. I've seen too many of them get elected.

    It would be a great target rifle but it would be kinda heavy for a hunting rifle.

    I think it would help if we knew what you wanted to hunt. A .308 might be a bit "heavy" for woodchucks and prairie dogs, but quite substantial for deer or elk.

    Provide more info and you will get more responsible responses.

    Try any of the Savage rifles with the new Accutrigger. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, I've found them to be one of the more accurate out-of-the-box rifles out there....and you can't beat the price!!!!

    I think tis down to a few (weight is no issue w/me):

    700 (VS, P, or LTR)
    FN A1

    Savage seems to be the same price as a 700.. and I'd rather have the name (from what I hear).

    Don't forget the CZ. Great accuracy right out of the box. You could almost buy 2 for $1000.00

    If I go CZ, I might as well get the Rem 700 that I found on another site for $400
