So, what's the going value....

....on a Savage 340D .222rem, in about 85% - 80% condition? Wood is good, no scratches or dents, don't know if or how many times it may have been refinished. Of course the metal has it's usual handling marks....some blueing worn off the tip of the barrel and around the very edges on parts of the reciever. Excelent rifling, no pitting. Dosen't look as though it has had very many rounds put through it judging by the condition of the internals.

And no, no pics, I don't have a camera. Just give me a best guess/blue book value in the 80-85% range.

    Savage 340.............100% $225, 98% $195, 95% $170, 90% $160
    80% $150, 70% $140. Truthfully, espec. in .222 Rem, I doubt you can touch it for less than $250, cause I've tried here on GB and gun shows. They seem to be a popular rifle and tho not a classic model 70 Winchester nor a rem. 700, they seem to have a willing following.
    Plain vanilla but seems to be a real popular shooter. If theis is the Delux version (mod. 340S Deluxe), will have checkering,aperture sight and sling swivels and add $30 to $35 to above B. Book values.

    I agree with AC on his estimates. I also agree that if you find an excellent condition 340 in 222 you would be lucky to get it for under $250. In the condition you describe, about $185 should bring it home. If it had a good period scope and IS unaltered...say $200. It sounds as though the internals are really good so that is likely the important consideration since it is valued as a shooter below %98. I have one of every 340 ever made, enjoy them imensely and find them to be the last holdouts of an excellent level of craftmanship that isn't found on utilitarian rifles of today.

    I wish it were the S deluxe. It has had an alteration to it though in the form of a different scope, which necessitated the removal of the iron sights, large Weaver scope (not sure which model), the lense almost touches the barrel on the front of the scope, and it has had a trigger job done to it. It is a fantastic shooter though. Nice, very nice crisp and very light trigger. The person that had it before me had it set up with the scope and trigger job for precision shooting. And the wood is in great shape. No scratches, dents, dings at all, it does, however, have the checkering on the forearm and grip as well as sling swivels. From what you just told me though (I am no expert on Savage rifles) the stock is probably not origional.
