Leupold vx-III Cabelas Special Purchase

I just bought a new silver vx-III 3.5x10x40 wide duplex at Cabelas for $320.00. It was a special purchase scope, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary with the scope. Hasn't been mounted before and doesn't have any visual defects. The guys at the store seemed to think it was on sale because of the the new rangefinding recticle, which they thought was a defect. Are the special purchase scopes refurbs or did I just get a heck of a deal? The same scope in duplex was $459.99.

    Is it a 2003 or 2004 vx-III??? Leupold announced an update to their vx-III line this year and I think I remember seeing places offer "specials" on the 2003 models. IMHO, you got a heck of a deal if that is why this scope was on special. The main difference between the years' models is a new treatment of thier glass that is supposed to increase contrast and clarity. But...the vx-III in 2003 were awsome scopes and they still are--more than enough for what most of us ask out scopes to do.

    I'm pretty sure it's a 2004, it has the new logo and I think they just came out with the range estimator this year. I have a varix-II on my rifle and have always been happy with it, but I couldn't pass the price on this one. Bought it for my wife, but I might just have to trade her.

    The previous model was the VARI-X III. The new model with the range finding reticle this year is the VX-III. There are other differences between them also.

    I would contact Leupold or check the website , Im not positive but I remember that Leupold had some time of problem with one of the new scopes with the windage and elevation adjustments being reversed on some of the scopes and they were taking them back to be changed over. This could be one of them that was "re done" or fell i nthat category. I mnot sure though on this.

    God gave us all a gift. Have you found yours yet ?

    Did you get it in the bargain cave? If it has been purchased and returned for any reason they (Cabela's)will not sell it as new and usually mark them down substantially. I've bought scopes at Cabela's that were new in opened box and never been on a gun and got huge discounts on them.

    I just checked the dials and they're fine. Yes, I bought it in the bargain cave, I was surprised by how many scopes they had in there, but they said they get a lot of special purchase scopes from Leupold. Probably half of them were Leupolds, mainly the older models.

    They also changed the way you focus the scope. Instead of turning the bell of the scope their is another adjustment knob.

    I don't approve of political jokes. I've seen too many of them get elected.
