Who makes the best M1 Garand parts sets
I want to build an M1 Garand and i see several companies selling parts sets. Who has the best one? Also I have a choice of a GI or aftermaket reciever. Strickly from a shooters perspective what is your opinion? Thanks

The best receivers are GI (from anyones point of view).
www.odcmp.org sells the best "kit" as it comes fully assembled, tested, and ready to go.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
It's been several years since anyone has sold good quality M1 parts kits. Most being sold today are either worn out, a mix of Italian-made parts, or both. The only way to be sure to get good parts is to buy them individually from well-known parts dealers. Unfortuately, that will cost a lot more than buying a service grade rifle from CMP & "parting" it out.

nuff said, thanks for the advise. I am already a member of an approved club and a Veteran. So I will go the CMP route. I think I will pay the extra $ and stay away from the cheaper Greek returns. Someone told me they were rough.

I've bought 2 Service Grade Garands from the CMP, and am very pleased with both of them.
An SA made in '44 and an H&R made in '54.
Just be sure to never fire any cartridges in a Garand with a bullet weight heavier than 150 grains.
You can't go wrong buying one from the CMP. My H&R is in the pic below.

Why? I have fired thousands of rds using the G.I. 173 gr BT
Nat. Match bullets, and also many rds of G.I. Nat. Match ammo which were
173 gr. BT, as did most of us in National Match Course Service Rifle
Matches with no ill efffects in the M-1 rifles.0
