Honing Oil ?

What can I use for a cheap Honing Oil?
I'm sure I could probably use 3 in 1 oil but I'm lookin for something even cheaper.
How about Transmission Fluid?
Any Ideas?

  tranny fluid will work but to get a real fine hone, use the thicker oils, makes a better finish by suspending the materials

  I use mineral oil and a gallon of the stuff is not only cheap but will last forever.

  I use the heavier oils because they suspend the particles better, but frequently clean my stones in Kerosene as well.

  Air tool oil. Very thick, works very well.

  You actually don't need to use oil at all- water and a sprinkling of Comet-type cleanser suspends the particles and makes for a very easy cleanup.

  Go to any Machine shop supply store and purchase Sunnen Honing oil. All oils are different; oil for lubrication, oil for tool cutting, oil for home use, etc. Use the right oil for the job. The cutting characteristics are noticeable with honing oil to be used with stones.
