value of S&W M16
I have an S&W M-16 with 8 3/8 inch barrel. I am thinking about selling or trading it. It has been shot but still probably rates 95-98% metal condition. However, the finger groove grips have been stippled in the finger groves. Have box and papers. Any ideas of fair value?
I usually try to price things by viewing the various auctions and periodicals, but can't find any comparable units.

My 2 cents is, this revolver would be strictly of interest to collectors. As it is, .32 revolvers are a hard sell anytime. If at all possible replace the grips with the correct K Frame grips without the stippling.
As the previous poster noted, have high quality pictures taken. Emphasize in your add the rarity of this model and barrel length, i.e. only (3) years in production, less then 9,000 total made in all barrel lengths.
Hope for the best! Be very flexible and motivated. With something like this, any REASONABLE trade or cash offer should be seriously considered.

If it is the early production (K-32) it'd be $1,000 to $1,200 but I've never heard of one of those with the 8 3/8 barrel.
So I suspect you have the more recent mfg. and in 32 long, in top condition, $300-325+ And if it is in 32 H&R mag., again in top condition, $350-400+
If your going to list it for auction don't use the Reserve format, they just aren't very popular because most listers don't know how to use them and folks waste their time bidding against unrealistic reserves. Just set a starting price you can live with and put 'er out there ... it will sell.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0
