single barrel lefever [help]

I have a single barrel lefever that says it is a long range trap and field and it is not in any of my books.There is reference to a trap and reference to a field but not a combo gun. It is 28" barrel and is checkered with no vent rib and a goose on each side of rec. made in ithaca ny.

    Welcome to the forum rifflemagnet: I went through several of my old books. Since Lefever changed hands several times, finally bought out by Ithaca. I doubt seriously if they "offered a combo" gun, most likely the same receiver was used by both the Trap and Field guns, and it's just the way the receiver was marked. True Trap guns came with checkered walnut stocks, and the vent rib was an option. Trap guns came with a Full choke, one book says barrel lengths were 26, 28, 30 or 32 inches. The other book says 30 or 32 in. for a Trap gun. So your guess is as good as mine, but when this gun was built most Trap guns had 30 or 32 in barrels. The field gun had plain walnut stocks. So based on that, are your plain or checkered? The true Trap gun is rare, but my one book that shows it, from 20 years ago, says a Vent Rib trap in 100% had a $750 value. My latest book declined to put any value on the Trap becuase they are rare. but those were made in Syracuse, NY. Since yours shows Ithaca, NY, I would say it was made by the Ithaca company somewhere between 1915-1942, only the serial number can pin it down closer. Hope this helps you. Regards Dave
