Which AK 47 do I want?
I know absolutely nothing about AK 47's. I'm willing to spend a few $$$ to get a good one.
Would someone (or everyone) give me some ideas as to what to look for and what to stay away from?

i would recommend the romanian WASR-10 hi-cap. you can get one for about 350 brand new. now that the ban is gone and these are actually "us made" rifles, you can put a folding stock on it. somebody on here has a link to a great WASR-10 website. somebody will post it. 0 -
Check out www.robarm.com. The Vepr rifles are an "Americanized" RPK. Very accurate with great fit/finish and accessories. 0 -
I have a SAR-3. This is the .223 varient. The SAR-1 is the 7.62X39 varient and the SAR-2 is the new russian calibur. I like mine alot. You will not find a better shooting AK. The Galile and the Finish varients do indeed shoot better but you pay 4 to 5 times more for one. Get a good SAR and modify it to hyour hearts content. My 2 cents [8D]

SAR-1. They may look like crap (wood won't match), but they're the most reliable, and if you plan to doctor it up any, the wood doesn't really matter all that much. Got one on here for less than $340 with a 5 and 30 round clip, cleaning kit, sight tool, manual, and sling. Mags are cheap, too, so definitely go for it. 0 -

I have a Sar-1 and love it. Even though I have not had it long, it is a fun gun to shoot. I am slowly upgrading it to look nicer. 0 -
I have an SAR-1 which is "rough" but great.
I have a VEPR (in .223) which is nice but too heavy--it could lose a couple of pounds if Robinson Armament would start using some light-weight furniture. The butt stock and fore grip is made of an extremely heavy plastic--there is no need for all that weight.
I'm watching Vector Arms and Neveda Arsenal to see what sort of configurations they will be offering now that the "evil features" ban has expired--I'm pretty sure my next AK will have a folding stock and will be chambered in 7.62x39.
If you wanted an inexpensive way to experience an AK, I'd suggest buying a Saiga. You can get one for around $200. It's a good way to start becoming less Kalishnikovly challenged.
