C&R OK For Norinco SKS?

I am unsure as to the exact date of manufacture for a Norinco SKS I have. I do not see the gun specifically listed in a C&R book I have, but then again I don't see Garands listed in it either.

Anyone know the law on this? Are any SKS considered C&R eligible, if so, how do you know what is what?

    None of the Norinco SKS models are C&R eligible. They're not on the list nor are they 50 years old. Sorry... you can buy Russians, Yugos, and Romanians on your C&R License in their original & unaltered condition. Pick-up Norincos at your local pawn shop, gun store, or show.

    Thanks for the reply. But are you telling me you can trade the Yugo SKS coming out of CAI today with C&R? That doesn't make much sense to me, please clarify if you can.

    I can see an old Russian one but not newer ones made after 1960.

    At one time Yugo SKS's were very rare and brought very high prices. They were added to the C&R list at that time I believe, as a collectible item. I know it isn't too logical how the system works until you study it a bit. Kind of like the way bayonets and grenade launchers are OK on Yugo's but you could go to jail for putting one on a Norinco SKS, only under certain conditions of course as specified by law. Yes, it is really confusing sometimes. The bottom line is that it is OK to buy and sell Yugo SKS's on your C&R license unless they are prohibited by law (as in California). In my experience, the wholesaler, AIM, has always been a great place to buy these with your C&R FFL.

    I think the answer you are looking for is because norinco still manufactures firearms ,this why their sks is not C&R eligible ,which is understandable ,but yes it is screwed up how the rules change/apply to a Chinese and yugo

    Yes, the firearms laws are contradictory and you have just discovered the farse that the gun banning lobby has perpetrated on the American people in forcing their ideology.

    Think of some of the other examples, an Argentine Colt or a Colt Systema (both 1911s) can be purchased with a C&R but try going down to the local gunshop and buying a new Kimber or Springfield 1911 with that same C&R. The same thing with Browning Hi-Powers, P-38s, and some of the Walther PPs, etc. It can't be done.

    Ok guys thanks for the answers. Sucks for one of my customers who thought it was C&R eligible.

    If I can't find it in the C&R book ATF P 5300.11 then generally I don't allow it, unless I can get some proof otherwise.

    Blame the idiot feel good legislators I guess.
