Colt Govt' Model marking.

Could someone tell me the significance,if any, of the serial number prefix "70S" on a Colt 1911 Govt' model?

  My WAG is that it denotes a pistol chambered for the 9mm Steyr cartridge, that was made export, i.e. foreign sale in Europe.

  Hello 70S was prefix for the commercial.38 super starting in 1972 with serial 70S03801 This frame will work with any top half as long as you have the right ejector mounted on the frame for that slide. 70SC would be combat commander satin nickle quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

  Thanks for the info.. Mine is numbered about 300 below the 70S03801 number.
