My father-in-law has an IJ handgun he needs dated. If there is an expert out there who can accurately date this gun we would appreciate it very much.

sounds like an iver johnson safety hammer 32. its most likely a tip up model, right? i have a 22 safety hammer and theyre pretty close to being the same. the 32 was built on a heavy frame. made from 1892 to 1950. the 32 was made in 2 versions: 32 s&w (5 shot) and s&w long (6 shot) sounds like yours is a 32 s&w! when you release the top latch, the bbl and cyl should flip up and eject. hammer must be down. squirt some kerosene or a good rust penetrater in the cyl rod. it should free up. is yours square or round butt?
