Blueing

Can anyone tell me if cold blue will work on stainless steel parts? I have a Smith stainless ejector rod that I wish were blue. Thanks....BT

    anyone have any luck with the store bought kits.... How anout backyard hot blueing?

    Jptatum: Well I'd say there are several things that need to considered. Is it a collectable, such as an old Winchester or Browning? If so blueing reblueing would most likely ruin the value. If it's not a collectable, the signs I look for are "blood spots" light browning spots that will lead to rust. This is the first stage, also freckling, little spots in the blue, will lead to flaking and or rust. Any sign of pits. If the blue is just thin and silvery on the high points, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep it well oiled. Also where do you hunt, if it's a bird gun and hunt near brachish water or salt water, even a new blue job wont help much against salt. hope this helps you. Regards Dave
