For that kind of money, 1 1/2 inch groups in a 30-06, doesn't get any better than that.

Well, it took some searching, but I found some history on this rifle. If I'm correct, it was originally made by Raptor Arms, which changed it's name to Charter 2000, which sold out to Mossberg. Charter called it the Field King, and I found two reviews from years ago:

    www.gunblast.com/Charter2000_FieldKing.htm

In any case, it looks like a very well made and accurate rifle, one of the few real bargains out there. Originally it was offered in 243, 25-06, 270 and 30-06, but Wal-Mart appears to only have it in 270 and 30-06. If they ever offer it in 25-06, or my personal favorite 7mm-08, I'm going to snap one up!

Charter Arms sent me this email about the Charter 2000 rifle.

    "Dear sir
Yes we did sell this gun to mossberg."

its been really great at the range. i put on a bushnell 3x9x40 on it from the 60 dollar price range, its been true on. the most suprising thing about it, forgiving recoil. i got the 30.06 and it is the lightest recoil that ive shot. im using winchesters 168 acubond.
the one thing that it needs is a floor plate in the magazine. the rifle reminds me alot of rem 700 adl.

Jawja, maybe I'm just ignorant, but what on earth is the big deal with floorplates? I have several Rem 700 ADL's and am satisfied with them without a floor plate. The only advantage I can fathom is faster unloading. I always thought they would be more trouble than they are worth, Accidental opening while stalking or resting on a deer stand rail are a couple of my concerns.
