butler creek 10/22 package??? Any good...

Having ruled out a .17 conversion, thanks for the heads up about pressure problems guys, I still want to dress-up and make my 10/22 more accurate for varmits and targets. Has anyone tried the butler creek heavy barrel and stock package??? Does the barrel end up free floated, how does it shoot??

Thanks, I appreciate all the trial and error time and money that you guys save me.

    I have two 10-22s with BC .22 packages 1 22" stainless fluted and 1 18'blue nonfluted.They both shoot extremely well and function great.
    I am partial to the blue gun I think it shoots a little better.I put Volquartsen triggers and extended mag release on both.Makes a fun gun to shoot.Buy lots of ammo you won't be able to put it down.

    Butler Creek barrels are pretty good, but I'm kinda lukewarm on their stocks.

    You don't say what you want to do with the tricked 10/22 but if it is field type work I'd suggest a Hague Overmolded synthetic and in those your barrel is in contact with the stock.

    Fajen and Boyds both make nice laminated wood stocks in sporter and shilouette. You can setup the stocks to float the barel, but a standard 10/22 action is only held in with a single screw at the front of the action and the barrel is held to the action with a "V" block tightened with the allen/hex head screws. I've found that you go with the more exotic threaded barrel to action modification that the rifles shoot better with contact between stock and barrel. I'm also sure that there will be others that feel the dead opposite, but it all depends on the use, the more and rougher use the greater the odds that a floated barrel to standard action will loosen and end up making barrel/stock contact.

    Barrel choices are many, and it really depends on how much you want to spend, but there is a declining return there when you start looking at the big $$$ barrels. Butler Creek and Midway's Adams and Benett offer good value, match chambered, barrels that if properly setup and used with guality ammo have the capability to produce groups at 50 yards or better that can easily be covered by a nickle.

    Go to www.Midway.com and check out some of their barrel and barrel/stock packages. They often have sales/specials. While you can spend well over $1,000 on "tricking out" a 10/22, for $250-300 you can get a good stock and barrel setup ... beyond that put the money in your scope as that part of the investment can be moved from gun to gun, plus the better you can see the target the better you should be able to hit it.

    Gota a couple of meanieized 10/22's one with the butler creek carbon fiber barrel & houge stock, Other is a Midway s/s barrel & their stock
    Both pull put all shots in a nickle @ 50m.
    BUT the Ruger Target 10/22 with bull barrel will put all shots within a dime or smaller.
