Beretta 1201f ?'s- how do you load the #$%^ thing!

OK, I must be an idiot. I picked up a Beretta 1201f as a gift for my buddy. I shoot a Benelli M1 and I was under the impression the were darn near the same thing. What I cant figure out is the order your supposed to load the thing! If you drop a round in the loading port (side) and close the gun, then you can push the side button, push up the carrier slightly and load the tube. So far so good, but when you fire the gun, the next round is chambered and the following round is pushed from the magazine tube on top of the carrier. It will load and fire if you pull the trigger, but it prevents you from reloading the magazine since the carrier cant be pushed up. I know Im missing something, I just cant figure out what. BTW- I did go and download an ownwers manual from Beretta's site, it was worthless! 2 pages, one paragraph in English. Anyone have a clue? Thanks- Chad

    I have a Beretta 1201 FP which, I believe is the same. My gun does not have that problem. It sounds like something may be wrong with the gun.

    The shells should stay in the magazine until they are fed into the chamber, and should not stop on the carrier while enroute. You should be able to load shells into the mag anytime while shooting.

    Went out an shot it today, the only time its a problem is when you want to top off a partialy empty magazine. As the gun's chamber is loaded, the carrier comes up and allows you to load the tube. The rounds stay in the tube until you fire the gun, then the next round pops out and chambers. But as the carrier goes down past the silver lever on the inside of the button (the one that releases the bolt forward) it pushes the back of that lever causing the next round to leave the magazine tube and rest on top of the carrier, under the bolt until you fire again where it loads nicely.

    SO try this for me Lefty- load your chamber, put 3 rounds into the tube, fire the gun, then flip it upside down and see if there is a round on top of the carrier for me. I was sent an email stating some of the older Benelli guns were this way too. Since this is the same system, maybe its by design. The gun shoots well, just seems odd too me. Thanks- Chad
