best revolvers
Good night,
i write from Italy, and in this moment i want to buy a great revolver but I don't know what is the really best between all revolvers.
The model 27 or 29 from S&W is better then Phyton or Tropper or Anaconda from colt??And the Manhurin or Taurus as good as the other??
I want two revolvers one in 357 Mg and one in 44 Mg..for you what is the best...in this two calibres???
thank for all..

357: S&W 686 4" or 6" depending on use, 44mag: S&W 629 5" classic 0 -
The S&W is always a good choice but if you can afford the MR73 go for it. it's pretty much unknown here in the US but the fit and finish of those guns is amazing. That's one buy you will not regret.

In the .357, my bet would be on the 686 S&W with 4" barrel. One of the finest revolvers I have ever fired. 0 -
The Smiths and Colts speak for themselves and are both excellent designs; you would be well served by either. The Manhurins are really good guns and Taurus has made a great product for many years now. Since you are in Italy, why not get a Mateba? They come in both calibers you desire and having shot them, I find them to be quite intruiging! Should be more affordable for you there in it's land of origin.

Hello Antonio...
My preference is a Ruger GP100 (.357 Mag), and a Ruger Super Redhawk (.44 Mag), and I own both. For all the extra money that you will spend on either the S&W or Colt, you can easily have a quality trigger job done on the Rugers (and have money left over), and in the end, you will have a more accurate revolver that will outshoot and outlast either the S&W or Colt.

Thank to all
I think that the older model of S&W are more nice then more accurated then the modern 629 or 627 or 657,what about it??
In Italy many people used Colt Python or S&W 686, and someone think that Manurhin MR 73 is the great revolver in 357 Mg.But I want a revolver which give me the possibility of make more cartridge in the centre of target...I want a revolver accurated as my great LUGER P.08.
For you what revolver can make it??For this reasons is better the 357 Mg or 44 Mg.??
cheers....0 -
I was fortunate enough to find a 629 Classic "DX." It came out of the S&W Custom Shop, but was discontinoued years ago and is truly a fine target/hunting handgun...if you can find one.
I had a 686 Plus and liked it a lot until I found an "older" Python. Both are fine revolvers, but there's just something about a Python.0 -
Antonio,
Both rounds are indeed accurate, but the 357 allows you a little more accuracy due in large part to the lower recoil. I've seen some really accurate 44 mags, don't get me wrong, but the 357's will generally make for a better target gun. Add to that the fact that 44 mag ammo is so much more expensive to buy or load and the 357 starts to make a lot of sense. I own several Smiths and the most accurate is an older model 14-3 in 38 special. A close second is my "newer" 586 in 357. I also own several Colts', though I PERSONALLY don't enjoy shooting them as much as I do my Smiths. Like the Rugers, I have always felt the Colts were a little "clumsy" (this is a gross generality!) in "feel" when compared to the Smiths. It's all personal choice and I think the best advice I can give you is to hold, and if possible, shoot as many different revolvers as you can until you find one that is "perfect" for YOU!

ruger GP-100 in 357...nice and smooth!!! 0 -
.357 - go with the Manurhin. If price is an object, go with the GP-100 by Ruger.
.44 Magnum - I have no experience with these, so my opinion would be a best-guess and utterly worthless.0
