BM59 Magazine Release Lever...

Hello out there! I hope you experts can help me. My "Dream Rifle"(AlpiniBM59) has, what I say, a weak/ too easy magazine release lever. On my other Franken'BM'59 rifles, one has to depress the lever to drop out the magazine. On my Alpini, it is like, light to the touch to depress the lever and the magazine comes out. I mean quick to drop the magazine, but to me, to light. (Like a glance touch and the magazine drops. On my other rifles, you have to DEPRESS the lever to take out the magazine.) I think the latter is the norm. Also, does your AlpiniBM59 have the full Tri-Compensator, the detachable one, or the compensator with just the holes at the end.


Lastly, does anybody know what maker(Springfield Armory or Winchester) of the garand rifle, the Italians were given by the U.S.? And did the Italians alter these receiver to become select fire?

    THAT IS A BEAUTY!!! I wonder if my Alpini was a real one and not a standard that someone put a para stock and sold the standard stock. My compensator can be found on the RSI (reese surplus). It only has the holes at the end and the bayonet lug, like on the gas cylinder. There is no space between the gas cylinder and the bayonet lug, like on your para, mark christian.
    What kind of stamping do you have on your left side of the stock? Mine is P.B. BM59, only. Does you bolt have the PBBM59 marking as well? Mine does not have the PBBM59 on the bolt. And lastly, my heel of the receiver looks like this:
    7.62mm BM59
    Springfield Armory
    000XXX

    Did you buy your Alpini straight from Springfield Armory back in the 1980's, when they gave out free additional accessories? Read that from the back of an old Guns n' Ammo's,"Assault Rifles". (Should have used my high school graduation money to buy one or an FN-FAL 50:63, instead of traveling!)

    Make sure the edge of the mag release lever that contacts the mag is not rounded off. Does the mag release lever spring pressure feel the same between all you rifles? My BM62 takes an appropriate amount of pressure to release the mag.

    There is a wide variation of quality among all the "BM59's" out there.

    The pressure on the mag release lever on the Alpini is "ALOT" less than my other two rifles. It just doesn't feel like the other two. I mean, like, just touching it and it drops the magazine. I feel like I should replace it. Is it difficult to do that?

    I looked in my manual and it will be easy to replace the spring. Just remove the trigger group and it will be obvious how the mag rel lever works and what pin to knock out. Maybe Reese Surplus will have the spring. Do you understand what I am trying to say about the contact surface of the lever being square, not rounded. If the surface is rounded just a little touch on the lever will move it enough to get the rounded surface sliding out of contact with the matching pad on the mag.

    Does the BM59 use M14 mags or are they unique to the rifle? I have (2) mags that look like M14 but are different on the back where they latch up. Anybody got pictures?

    Totally different. See pics below. Fake BM but real mags. The mags will have P.B. BM59 on the floorplate.
