Ruger #1 barrel work
Have been thinking about purchasing a #1 and have a question for Ruger #1 owners and gunsmiths. Are barrel modifications or rechambering possible? Will the reciever/action accept aftermarket barrels?

A good gunsmith can replace the barrel on #1's. Yes they can be rechambered. Might have to change the extractor if going from a rimless case to a belted or rimmed case. What do you mean by barrel modifications? The biggest thing with #1's is having the fore arm hanger worked on to improve it's accuracy.

aglore has all of your questions correct especially the emphasis on having the hanger worked on for accuracy.
You can use any of the aftermarket barrel manufacturers but you will have to have a contour that works with the hanger. Some of the aftermarket manufacturers can supply this contour from their facility if you or your gunsmith request it.
Best of luck!0
