What is the best 22-250 varmit rifle / scope combination available with a synthetic stock and a stainless fluted barrel ?

I could come up with several rifles but take a look at the Ed Brown Custom (573-565-3261) line of rifles and the Model 702 Varmint in particular. It is avaialbe in many configurations and calibers, all built on a McMillian fiberglass stock and prices start at around $3000 and head up from there with only your wallet the limiting factor. A nice Leupold 8.5-20X50 with the special varmint hunter reticle in a 30mm tube would be a fine choice and costs around $900 and I would have it and your choice of rings fitted to the rifle by Brown and targeted with your specific ammunition before the rifle is shipped.

Best group I ever had was with a Colt Sauer. Had many others in that caliber, and never understood why a lightweight rifle(compared to the Rugers, Remingtons, and such) would hold a better group than a true varmint or target rifle. Factory ammo or reloads, worst group at a hundred yards was half an inch. Had many of those groups with all touching with handloads. 0 -
Recently fired a Rem. 700vssf rebarreled with the Douglas air-gauged fluted barrel and reworked trigger . Sandbagged it was a one-holer with any Hornady ammo , I found the repetition rather boring . I must say, although a little boring after 10-12 rds. in the same hole it sure made me look good .

I hate to admit it since I have had a falling out with Remington over a warranty problem but I had a Remington 700 VS-SF in .220 Swift that would shoot consistently 1/2" groups and my record was 3/8" group (center to center at 100 yards).
By the way, I would look at the .220 Swift if you are after the ultimate rifle. It'll do everything the .22-250 will do only a little faster/flatter. The new .204 Ruger should be even faster and flatter but at the expense of worse wind variance.0 -
Remington 700 VSSF, have the trigger worked, Badger ordnance or IOR Valdada tactical rings and bases (lightly lapped) and a Nightforce NXS in either 8-32x56 or 12-42x56 with the NP-IRR reticle. won't be anything getting over on that set-up unless it has been worked on. This is also a perfect platform for going custom later on.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

I will second the Ed Brown post. If price were no object, Ed's guns are hard to beat! Great attention to detail and execution. As a second tier option...Kimber or Cooper; either are great guns!

What he said! Just do not invest the $$$ in one of their custom rigs...you are FAR better off going with a real custom set up from a well known gunsmith.

If money was no option and you wanted to buy your dream car you wouldnt go to your local Ford dealership and pick out your ''dream ride'' ,no your would have someone such as Jesse James build somthing
for your custom application.Same thing applies {or does to me} when it comes to your dream rifle.The accuracy potental of an accurized
700 or 40x action is no comparison to that of a well made custom action.If accuracy is your game that is the route to take.But to each his own,here is a web site that might help you. Hope this helps in some way.
