AR 15 ???
I am seriously looking to purchase an AR15.I will admit to you that I am a complete novice when it comes to these rifles. I need serious help with complete answers as to what I should buy and what not to.So here is what I think I need and correct me if I am wrong.
I will only target shoot this and probably not much else. The Bushmasters look like the best because of their features and price.I may occasionally varmint hunt with it. I am never satisfied with marginal accuracy and 1 or 2 inches at 100 yards is what I think I should have. Right or wrong?
I will use only open{factory-?}sights.I am not interested in adding a scope.Reference this Gunbroker auction 23207967.This looks like what I am after because it has a traditional stock and sights and carry handle. Is this what I am looking for?
All the listings say A2 or A3 etc. What does all this mean?
Please keep in mind that I am a very experienced rifle shooter and not a novice concerning firearms.I have friends that have these rifles and all have different opinions.
I guess what I am looking for is an experienced person or persons to point me in the right direction.
Thank you all very much for any and all help you can give me.

A2 is the current form with standard carry handle part of the upper receiver. A3 is the flat top, which you can get a carry handle and attach it if you want. A3's work better for scoped guns.
Bull barrel configuration rather than standard barrel configuration would probably be what you are looking for. I'm not talking about the big varmit type barrel, more along the 1" size..
I'm sure someone else will be along with more or better info than what I've provided...

Just to warn you, some of the guys are gonna go nuts when they see you mention AR15 and Bushmaster in the same post. The AR is a Colt trademark, and you don't want it--Colt has been jerking our chains for years to be PC. Bushmaster is a favorite among many, especially since the prices just dropped following the fall of the ban.
I'm a personal favorite of the Russian Saigas. They're sporterized AKs, but can be had for less than $300, and have better accuracy than a Mini-14, often times.
My buddies brag about their H and K's, which they claim can get 1/2 inch at 100 yards. I can't attest to the validity of the claim, though.
Hope some of that helps. Best of luck.0 -
From what you have described as "your wants" in this package I would expect that most better quality AR style rifles will do what you want. Personally I like the Bushmasters, but Armalite and Olympic Arms and other will do well also. I'd go with the standard 20" barrel A2 setup, and would want a chrome linned bore, offered by Bushmaster. I'd stay away from the bull barrels. The AR style platform is very adaptable and you can always get a second upper if you want the more accurate heavy varmint/scoped outfit later. 0
