The lifting of the AW ban in the 1994 Crime Bill had ZERO effect on imported rifles. In order to modify your MAK-90 you will have to insure that it contains enough made in the USA parts to no longer clkassify it as an imported firearm, like the Romanian AKs which are currently all over the market.

Thanks Mark, I've been to the BATF web sight and it's not very helpfull on this subject. I tought the 922R stuff was about kits that had no recievers with them or ones the were torched. This is a pre 94 import. Does it still fall into into this none sport rifle 922r stuff?

It would have to be pre 1989 to allow for the types of modifications you are thinking about since the 1994 Crime Bill had no effect on imported firearms. You need to change out enough parts (there are companies like TAPCO which sell complete compliance parts kits) to make you rifle USA compliant. It is also ilegal to assemble from parts any firearm which would otherwise be banned from importation so if you whether you had a stripped receiver or a complete firearm it would have no effect on the 1989 import ban. The reason you see so many AK, HK, FAL, and CETME clones with pistol grips is that these rifles were all assembled with enough USA made parts to qualify them as American made and because of this their owners can now add things like flash hiders, bayonet lugs, and folding/retractable stocks to their rifles while imported guns like the MAK-90 are still prohibited from such modifications.

    Thanks Mark,
Let me run this by you. Your last remark was "while imported guns like the MAK-90 are still prohibited from such modifications." Unless they are made compliant? So it's not over as long as I make my mak 90 compliant? If I understand you correctly.[8D]

BTW This mak 90 was advertised as "pre 94 ban" kinda miss leading for someone who is looking for their first AK.

Thanks for the valuable information mark. I have taken a look and I have aranged for an under folder that is suppose to fit the mak 90. I better check to see if it's the same person who sold me the Mak 90....[8D]

Nope not him, but that doesn't mean anything. Actually the pin in question looking at your pic and my mak 90 are in the same spot as far as I can tell. As far as welding a back plate, yes I can do that but I am no master machinist. Here is the link to the under folder.
