Cylinder hanging up on BFR

I have a BFR in 45/70 S.S. 7 1/2" barrel. I have only shot a few boxes of factory loads in this weapon and it is now starting to stick when trying to cock. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. I just tried it a few minuts ago and it was working , but I am afraid to take this hunting as if I get a chance to make a shot it might not work? I never sent in the warranty card. Does anyone know what might be causing this or hear of others of this model having the same problem? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks[:(]

    I have a BFR 10" in .450 Marlin and have shot around 4-5 boxes out of it with no problems what so ever. Have you tried giving Magnum Research a call? Maybe they could give you some insight into your problem.

    I've never even held one but..I'd check the cylinder pin. Sometimes they have a tendancy to get loose which can cause the problem you're describing.

    before blaming the gun, check your ammo. a heavy bullet in a handgun under heavy recoil tends to move the bullet foreward in the case if the crimp is not good enough. look at the bullets in relation to the front edge of the cylinder.

    factory 45-70 is normally loaded for a single shot or a tube mag. crimping needs to be more agressive to hold the bullet from backing out rather than pushing in.

    cussedemgun, excellent idea. Seems that happened to me somewhere at sometime. I was doing some reloading at the time and wasn't seating the primers firmly enough. I can't really remember because it's been sooo long but that does ring a bell. Primers or bullets coming unseated or shifting in a hand cannon. Hope the poster checks that.

    Thanks: It's not the ammo, it's the gun. It is malfunctioning in several ways. It locks up and the cylinder won't turn sometimes and sometimes it functions good. Other times it turns but won't lock back. The pin placement has something to do with it, but it is not the whole problem. I called the mfg. and they said to return it to them along with the warranty card and they would fix it? It is dangerous as it now stands. I am going to return it for repair, but I will have to use another weapon for this hunting season. I was planning to use this pistol for deer and elk, but I will shoot a 45/70 Marlin instead. So much for my plans. Thanks for your interest and answers. I am gun poor!

    I have a 45-70 BFR with a 10"bbl, I had the same problem with the *hanging* cylinder.... primer wasnt fully seated on a few.... the cylinder clearance on the bfr's is pretty slim.... but i just give my primers a lil extra umph when reloading from now on
