saiga for hunting
has anyone used a saiga rifle for hunting? i was thinking of purchasing one in .308 with the 22" barrel and wood furniture to use for deer this season...overall it would cost me around $400 for the rifle and scope mount...or...i was thinking of getting a winchester super shadow in 300wsm i saw on clearance with a scope for $475...which do you guys think is the better deal?
and just in case the winchester is gone when i go back to the store...has anyone been succesful with the saiga?

My buddy hunts deer with a Saiga and loves it. His is 7.62, but he hasn't had any problems with it. That and the fact that they can often be had for $250 used is a real plus. 0 -
The Saiga is OK, but i suspect it will be a lot heavier and not nearly as accurate as the Winchester. The bolt gun will be worth more and easier to sell down the road if you want something else. The .300 wsm is more along the lines of a .300 winmag in ballistics, also. 0 -
I had my friend's wood stocked long barrelled Saiga .308 sitting in my safe for about 3 years. I didn't care for it, Was really heavy and uncomfortable to handle. However I have handled the newer polymer Saiga 16" barrel 308's and find them to be all around a nicer rifle.

Saiga for hunting? Why not. But only if you don't have anything else. I hunted with Saiga 7.62x39 for five seasons, shot goats and deers up to 300 yards. I just had to. It was only gun I could buy.
To me, Saiga is awfully balanced and it's really hard to make a good shot, accuracy - 3MOA. Moreover, it was designed for 7.62x39, not for .308.
