.410 loading data question
I gave my 8 year old son my uncles old .410 I inherited a few years back. I soon found out that the cheapest store-bought .410 is a rip off. It was almost 50% more than the 12 gauge everywhere I went. I guess the stores figure that anyone buying .410 is either recoil shy or a parent buying ammo for their kid. Either way you're going to pay through the nose.
As a result of these unforeseen market forces I like any self-respecting red blooded American decided to roll my own. I have a MEC reloader and was doing fine until the little wheels in my head started turning. Wouldn't it be cool to try some buckshot loads?
Now my problem is that neither of my reloading reference books has data for .410 buckshot loads. In the past when I was reloading pistol ammo and had a bullet that was not listed in one of my manuals I would simply find a bullet of similar weight and configuration and substitute the data. I have never experienced any problems with these substitutions. Both of my shotgun manuals say in big bold letters "NO SUBSTITUTION OF COMPONETS".
I understand the principal of trying to put to much water through a hose and bursting the hose from back pressure. To much OO buck through a little .410 hole would likewise be dangerous.[B)]
My question for the experts is does anyone have loading data for # 3 buck in a .410?

i have been reloading 3" 410 shells with (5) .310 lead balls for my ak410.i have been using the same loading data for a 11/16 oz load of win 296 powder.dont remember exactly the grain amount right now.if you wiegh (5) .310 lead balls its under 11/16 oz.these shoot really well and are really fun too shoot out of my ak410.hope this helps don 0
