Please Define "Transition Model" For Me

Someone told me that my Colt AR-15 that I bought years ago for on-duty use (police) is a preban transition model. It is a 6601 and has a flash surpressor, rigid stock, etc., but no bayonet lug.

What exactly is a "transition model"?

    transition gun: a gun that combines both old and new style parts prior to a model switching completely over to the new model totally. its a way companies save money assembling complete units so they dont get stuck with shelves of old parts.

    from the file on my CZ24 PROTOTYPE:
    "...transition model, nominaly a CZ24. a limited number of pistols have been noted marked "CZ25" and "CZ26". there are various minor design changes on each model run and it is conjectured that they were prototypes that were manufactured on the road to production of the less complicated, blowback operated CZ27 pistol"

    they would make a design change POST CZ24 and PRE CZ27. they would manufacture a limited number (usualy less then 100 pieces) and use these working design variants to test out modifications and differant configurations...

    STAR pistols are rather infamous for these small production runs with odd little design changes. the STAR MODEL A has several "pre-production" versions. my STAR MODEL A (1922 VARIANT) is one of them, with a production of less than 5000 pieces.

    very comman among older european designs.
