Hello JKKS the 38 special is a "RIMMED" cartridge and 38 super Is almost rimless this means that the star "ejector" will have trouble getting the fired case out of the CYL. and the use of half moon clips will not work without cutting the back of cyl. It is not EVER a good idea to shoot a cartridge not chambered for your gun. My suggestion trade the ammo you have for 38 special ammo quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"

I'll gladly take any FACTORY 38 SuperAuto +p ammo you have, and I'll replace them with S&W Model 10-tailored 38 Special reloads! They are 148gr hollow base wadcutters that go about 800-850fps; perfect for plinkin', targets, home defense or use in alloy-frame guns.

    Hi jkks,

I don't think that is such a good idea.

These cartridges are not interchangable. The .38 super has a OAL of 1.28 inches and the .38 Special of 1.55 inches. The .38 super also has a neck diameter of .382 inches to compared to the .38 special of .379 inches.

The .38 Super can push a bullet over 1200 fps which would be pushing it in a Model 10 since this exceed many .38 Special +P loadings.

My advice - don't do it. Use the proper ammunition in the proper gun.

As the others have mentioned, these are two entirely different cartridges and are not interchangeable.

Even if the .38 Super rounds would chamber in your Model 10, the chamber pressure of that round (33,000 C.U.P.) is nearly twice as high as SAAMI specs for .38 Special +P which is only rated at 18,500 C.U.P.

Why risk it? Swap the Super ammo for something intended for your revolver. [;)]

    GREAT IDEA!

Now, just pay the freight to my door, and I'll do the same for yours.
That's 500 rounds for 500 rounds, OK? I made 'em last month for some cowboy matches I missed, so if you want to swap; I'm amenable.
