Beretta 92 durability??

Im thinking about buying a Beretta 92 and I would like to ask to all of you who own this type of pistol how many rounds you shot so far and if you have experience any problems? and do the inox finish holds better than the blue? in general how durable is?

    I have owned two. An "original" italian 92 about 12 years ago and currently own a 92 vertec. I never, (never) had a single problem with either. The italian one had at least 2,000 rounds through it--never should have sold it--and the vertec is coming up on about 800 rounds or so.

    Although I have never owned an inox, some of the guys on the beretta forum reported having problems with the slide stop breaking on the inox--apparently the inox finish effected the metal somehow--or so they say. This problem has supposedly been worked out by baretta and I haven't heard any complaints from recent buyers. Anyway check out the baretta forum www.barettaforum.net and see what they have to say.

    The 92, especailly in 9mm, seems to have taken a lot of flak lately. The fact that many police departments and some military units have gone away from the 92 has helped fuel the baretta vs. glock vs. sig debates---not to mention the 9mm vs 40 vs 45 debates. Personally,I think glock, sig and baretta all make high quality firearms know for their reliability and durability. I know lots of guys who say one is better than the other but I have never known a shooter who said they have personally had a 92, a glock or a sig fail them--except for the inox stories.

    I chose my 92 because it fit my hand better than the sig and had more of the features I wanted compared to the glocks. Do your research, touch all the pistols your thinking about and choose. But to make a now long story short--you can't go wrong with a 92.

    Hey venenoindy, If you like this style of pistol you might want to take a look at a Taurus. They cost less and are just as reliable as the Beretta.
    I know most people arent Taurus fans because of what they have heard about them, but most people havent even given them a try.

    I have a PT 99 and have put over 5,000 rnds through it without any problems. I like the ergonomics of it much more than the Beretta.Try renting one at a local range and see if you like it.(it might save you some money)

    I have fired maybe 20,000 rounds through a 92, and maybe 5,000 thru a 96. I have used some really crappy milsurp ammo, reloads, and cheap imports, and they took it all. I have replaced some springs (trigger, trigger bar, slide stop, but that's to be expected. I know that some of the ammo was too powerful for the recoil spring, yet there has been no damage due to the impact of the frame upon the slide.

    All in all, I have no complaints about them.
