Value Spencer rifle

I am trying to help a frind find the value range for some of her fathers old guns. One is Spencer repeating Rifle. pat. March 6, 1860. Manufactured at Prov R.I. by Burnside Rifle Co. Model 1-A??, Ser. 18549.Appears to be a muzzel loader. About 49.5 inches long, with knife site

    The Spencer Repeating Rifle wasn't a muzzle loader, but rather a breech loading 7-shot repeating lever action with the magazine tube fitted through the center of the buttstock

    Flayderman doesn't mention a Model 1-A. This may be a civilian version of the Contract Model 1865 Spencer, made by Burnside.

    According to Flayderman: "Approximately 34,000 were made of which U.S. government purchased 30,502. It can only be surmised as to where the balance of 3,500 went. Possibly destroyed as government rejects or privately sold; the latter being the most likely."

    The military model was marked:

    "SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE/PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860/MANUF'D AS PROV.R.I./BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO./MODEL 1865"

    Flayderman gives the value of the Contract 1865 Model as:

    Good - $1,250
    Fine - $2,600

    If your rifle could be authenticated as a "civilian model" 1865 Contract rifle, it may be worth even more.

    I went back over to my friends house and looked at the rifle again. I found the Model number. It is 1865. The barrel length is 31 inches long. I took pictures, but I am uncertain as to how to attach or post them. If you send me your email, I could send them to you.

    If your data is correct and the Spencer Rifle is in factory original, Very Good condition or better, it's quite valuable.

    Flayderman indentifies it as being a Model 1865 Army Rifle. Estimated production of 1000, and value between $1,150 and $2,400, depending on condition.

    Got a picture of one off the net.
