Mil Spec 1911
I am interested in getting one of these new Springfield Miltary spec 1911's, my question is would it be possible to replace the standard miltary sights. I think eventually I would like to replace the little bitty front sight with a larger one, and put a adjustable in the back. Does anyone know if you can do this? Thanks in advance.

On the Springfield mil-spec 1911's, the front sight is staked in place and the rear sight is dovetailed. A "competent" gunsmith could mill a dovetail in the slide and install a replacement sight for you.
The mil-spec Springfields are quite popular because they're pretty decent shooters right out of the box, and a good value for the money. You can always use it for a basic pistol to start from for any later custom work later if you want.0 -
Hello as Raoul stated the Springfield is a good choice. Look at BROWNELL's web site they have many types of sights to fit your pistol . Just stay away from ROCK ISLAND and CHARLES DALY .They are soft and will not take us spec parts. quote:"PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN" 0 -
The last ones of these I've seen come with three dot sights. If you are already planning to upgrade the sights, ask yourself if there are other things you might want to change. If you buy the gun, swapping out the sights will add about $100 with parts and labor. Frankly I'd start with one of the loaded models--adding sights would move the gun into true target use status and you'd still be about $800 or so.

Thanks for the replies, I agree the Mil spec guns are a bargain, and I probably wouldn't change the sights for a while, but I am kinda fond of target sights. I just wasnt sure if it is possible, so thanks for your answers. And Raoul, these mil spec guns are brand new for only $450, so even adding $100 for adjustable sights I am still WAY below a $800 gun. Thanks
