??? Gorilla Gun ???

Hi all. Been a while. A gentleman I work with has a 12 ga. shotgun that is about the weirdest thing I've ever run across. No trigger or action of any kind. The stock looks like it was cut from a 2x4. The barrel pulls straight off ( like a pipe sliding out of another pipe ). You load it by putting a shell directly into the barrel then sliding the barrel back into the " receiver"(larger barrel). Too fire it you slam the barrel all the way back into a nail like protrusion. It has Gorilla Gun, Richardson Arms, Conn. on the barrel if I'm reading it correctly. I figure they must have at least 59 cents into building this beast. Has anyone seen one before. I sure would like any info you may have on this....Thanks

    I don't have the following reference work anymore, but it's written up in "The Worlds Fighting Shotguns" by Thomas F. Swearengen. You might be able to obtain the book as a interlibrary loan.

    It's been many years, but I vaguely remember this guy was involved with the anti-Japanese Gorilla movement in the Philippines during W W II.

    The "Gorilla" gun was a half hearted attempt to commercially sell a copy of a "Guerilla" gun used by natives in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

    Manufactured locally by Filipino's and other tribes, these were used to kill Japanese. I think OSS may have had a few made stateside to airdrop also.

    Yours sounds like the commercial version.

    The 1950 movie AMERICAN GUERILLA IN THE PHILIPPINES starring Tyrone Power had some of the type of shotguns you were talking about in the movie.My father inlaw was still in the Navy at that time and had a speaking part in the movie.

    Hello sealyon...

    Do you happen to work with (or for) Little John Gangel? He has the exact gun that you are described in his shop at this very moment, and it will be sold in his November auction. It is a very crude firearm, and the barrel would be better suited for use as a jack handle, or a club.
