I am trying to help a friend find the value range for some of her fathers old guns. One is Waffenfabrik Bern 155174 M78 with what looks like a bayonet mount. It has a leather strap and knive? sight. It is about 52.5 inches long.
Thank you for your help.

Today I came into possession on a Waffenfabrik rifle in "wall hanging" condition. I am trying to find some info on it, maybe someone out there will be willing to help. The markings on it say
Waffenfabrik Bern, 204797, M .81. I have found out that it was made by Waffenfabrik in Bern, Switzerland. I believe it is their Repetiergewehr, Vetterli, Midell 1869/70, with Serial number 204797. That is the only rifle that I have found on the net that looks like the one that I have. Am I on the right track or barking up the wrong tree? As I said it is in wall hanging condition only. Pretty worn out and rusted but will clean up ok. If anyone out there can assist me it would be greatly appriciated. Leo0 -
What you have is a Swiss Vetterlli M1878 rifle. In nice shape, these bring about $250 US. Amunition is obsolete and hasn't been produced since prior to WW2. Original ammunition Caliber 10.4x38mm rimfire will bring up to $10 per cartridge.

Here is a interesting history of the various Swiss Vetterli rifles. There's quite a lot of collectors interest in these rifles nowadays. Due a Google search on them you'll find a lot of info on the net.

My 2 cents is, if it's in VG to Excellent condition it would be, at least in $300 - $450, range.
