sxs shotgun repair
i found a double barrel shotgun for sale and one of the barrels has a dent in it. it only protrudes about 1/16" into the barrel. is there anyway a gunsmith can push out a dent like that? it is about 8" from the breech in the middle of the forearm. overall it is in good shape (exception of the dent)-it locks up tight, and the left barrel is fine. it looks like it had just slid off a rack and hit something. it is a modern shotgun-not damascus. thanks in advance.

Certain Gunsmiths who specialize in shotgun repairs, have a tool called a "Dent Raiser", specifically made to repair your kind of problem. Call around to different Gunsmiths in your area, to see who has one.

tatercats: Rufe is correct there are plenty of gunsmith who can raise dents. However it depends on the wall thickness of the barrel, and location. The breech area up through the forearm is usually the thickest wall. But don't be surprized if the gunsmith asks you to sign a waiver of liability. The cost can range from about $50-100 bucks, depending where you are at. Good luck Regards Dave 0 -
I think the best way to remove the dent would be with a 3 in slug. but make sure that you don't shoulder the gun in case it would blow up or somthing. just make sure you don't come to my house and ask me to do that next time we shoot. 0
