Collectors Gun???

I just purchased one of the USA Commemorative Shooting Team .22 target pistols. I shoot in a .22 target league and would like to shoot it. My question is two-fold. What is the likelihood of this becoming a real collectible and how much does it affect the value if the gun has been shot? I've never bought a gun that I just looked at.

    Well, I respect the opinion of those who believe that all guns are meant to be used, but.......once you have fired it, it will have no more value than a "plain" version of the same gun in similar condition. On the other hand, most "special editions" & "commemoratives" have little potential for appreciation.

    So, make up your own mind.

    In my opinion, nothing that is billed as a collectable will ever be one. It's a .22 plain and simple, shoot it.

    I would check into the numbers made, its age, etc before making that call. If it was made in a very limited number, say under 500 or so, then it might be worth keeping it unfired. Although many collectables don't bring much more than the non-collectable version to the right person later on it could. With .22's being available in such a wide variety now and in years past, why shoot something that has the potential for extra value in an unfired condition. Once a bullet goes down the bore you can't "un-shoot" it. I'd buy another .22 for a shooter and save this one unless the production run was in the thousands plus.
    That's my opinion anyway...
