Baikal IZH27 12 guage quality?

I was curious if any of you have heard about the quality of Baikal shotguns? I've been reading about these and haven't really heard anything bad about them. For the price you really can't beat what you get. They're beautiful guns. Anybody shot them at all? Any info would be appriciated.

    Haven't shot one, but when I was looking for a good over and under I purchased one. When I looked it over I wasn't satisfied with the overall fit and finish so I sent it back. I've heard good things, but it just looked cheap. I decided to buy a used Ruger Red Label instead. Just personal preference.

    They're real heavy, cause Russia doesn't have the best steel. You get what you pay for. Treat them right, and they'll last forever, but if you treat them like crap, expect them to need repair work. Case in point, the safety switch will bend if you pull the trigger when it's "on." Takes a while to fix, but not too bad. All depends on what you're looking to do.

    I bought the SXS 12 guage model and I have really enjoyed it. Shoots great. And I think it looks great for the price. Still a little tight locking up, but I'm sure it will loosen up as I shoot it more.

    thanks DBV...thats what I was looking for. If you spend $450 on a shotgun, you get a $450 shotgun. From looking at pictures on GB they are good looking guns.

    Have you considered a good used American classic for a shotgun?I ask because I feel the steel is better throughout the onces like I found on GB just now.

    The 311's have quite a following and are a very sturdy gun.Not the highest quality ,but then we're talking 'under 450.00' sg's.
    As to your original question I know a lot of cowboy shooters who use the Baikals and after they break in a bit they love 'em...especially the price.:)

    Generally a very good product line. I have shot several of the different models and was pretty much universally happy with the results. The only return I have seen on one of them was an O/U sent back because the forearm split after about 100 rounds. The replacement was sent back post-haste and looked even better than the original gun; that guy now has well over 5000 rounds through it and has seen nary a problem! The lock-up on close is a onager at first, but seems to require less effort after a few hundred rounds. All around decent quality peices and I would highly reccommend them if price is of major concern!

    I do not own one but have examined them. As above comments, it is somewhat heavy. I think the fit and finish has improved of late, but do also look for the sporting clays model. Handled one of these a while back. It ain't no Browning, but for the price it seemed to handle nice and the finish seemed nicer on the clays model.

    Had one for about five years now...12 gauge, 28" barrels..action was very tight but polished it out a bit and it works almost as smooth as my Winchester 101 and my NID Ithaca 16 gauge which is about 75 years old.

    Has selective automatic ejectors, single selective trigger, ventilated rib, hand checkering, screw in chokes (F, Mod, IC come standard with choke wrench) and a GOOD factory installed recoil pad that absorbs recoil. Put about six cases of shells through it without a problem.

    Wood to metal finish leaves a bit to be desired, but a little diligent work and a new stain and finish job and it cleans up rather nicely. Stamped engraving on reciever is not that good (read that as crisp) on mine, but since I use it in the field, the birds don't really care about that anyway.

    Like mine enough to buy one or two more of them. Does that help?
