COMBINATION GUN QUESTIONS: need a few answers
1. GUSTAV WEIDNER, PLAUEN I/V: i know he was a dealer in GERMANY starting near 1900 and at least up until the pre-WWII "TREATY OF VERSILLE" period (ie pre-1939)....
any information on this gent would be helpful. when, were, history, background, etc...
2. in my "BOOK OF COMBINATION GUNS AND DRILLINGS" they have a BBL configuration chart, and the corresponding GERMAN nomenclature. i can not find a RIFLE OVER SHOTGUN pattern, or the german term for this configuration. i do show a SHOTGUN OVER RIFLE (BOCK-BUCHFLINTE). is this term also for rifle over shotgun, or are they identified in a differant manner???
3. on the gun i am researching, all the major componants are marked with the number "51" in a large, elaborate, metal punched fashion. there is no SER#...
is this a very low / limited production SER#, or are these assembly marks used to keep all the parts matched???
4. how do i date a GERMAN gun from the PRE-1939 period??? i can narrow down the DOM using proof marks, but that still leaves a period of near 20 years that i think the gun could have been produced in (1918-1939)???
5. is 27 3/8" a good BBL length for the 9.3X72R cartridge??? the ballistics seem a bit soft / light, on par with a light .38-55WCF load... would this round / BBL combo make an effective deer gun in the under 200 yd range???
6. 16 gauge 2 1/2 inch shells from a 27 3/8" BBL... good for what???
small upland fowl??? ptarmagin, pheasant, duck??? whats your opinion???
7. if the gun has a DEALER mark / name on it, but no makers mark / name / proof how doi tell its origins??? who made it, what maker / arms house / firm???
i will post dimensions and pics later as i rough out my research, but some answers to these general questions would be helpful.

Rumors of my demise are wrong --- but only slightly.
I can't be of much help in most of the areas that you have posed questions in. However, there are a couple that I can address.
In response to question #5, there was a whole bag full of 9.3 X somethings. The only one that survived WWII with commercial loadings was the 9.3 X 72R. RWS did have a loading if memory serves. It has been many years since I looked for these so they may not be available today. As memory serves, they were around 190 grains and came over my skyscreens around 2000 fps. Give or take a short snort, that would give you about the same "wallop" as my Remington 788 that is chambered in 30-30 Ackley improved with a 150 grain head. I do NOT consider my 788 a "200 yard" rifle --- others may but I don't.
As to question #6 --- I have a "Dumoulin" 16 gauge SXS with 65 mm (2-1/2") chambers. The only commercial shells that I have found are "Traditional Game" by Gamebore. I have a few boxes of # 7's - 1 ounce of shot with fiber wads. I don't have any misgivings about hunting rabbits, squirrels, quail, or dove with this load. I have never seen and 2-1/2" 16 gauge shotshells loaded with steel or tungsten shot for waterfowl.

To question #2: Dopplebuchsdrilling I believe. I think we are looking at the same reference source, just look down a few more and I think that is what you are looking for.
