Serial numbers were 566,000 in 1950 and topped out on the 99-EG at #1,060,000 in 1960 when this model was discontinued. Yours would be pre 1954 since serial numbers were at approximately 900,000 in that year.

The 300 EG in question was a gift from my grandfather about 18 years ago. I have seen them in shops and at the gun shows for around $400.00 - $600.00 range, for ones in good shape.

Thanks for the info, I can buy the one in question for $300 and I think I will.

Jinx, $300 would be about right for a 99 in 80% condition if it is one of the more common models and more common calibers. If it is better than 80% you are getting a good to very good buy. Enjoy it, they are great old rifles.

Thanks He Dog; it is better than 80% and now sits in my safe.
