How long will it be overall with the butt removed? If it is 26" or more you are OK.

hey nunn it would be exactly 25" in lenght. is that close enough?

Close only counts in horseshoes.
The Ruby Ridge massacre by ATF was precipitated by a barrel that was 1/2" too short.
Besides, a rifle or shotgun without a buttstock is pretty much worthless; you can't hit much of anything.

Better leave it on.

If you attached a PERMANENT (that means welding or silver solder) muzzel extention like an extra long muzzel break, which brings the length over the 26" minimum you will be okay but you can expect tape measures to come out on a regular basis when you are blasting away with the thing!

i think you measured incorrectly. just think. you can buy a preban ak, with a side folding stock that is identical to your AK other than the stock, it is my understanding that the length of these rifles is measured with the stock folded, this would tell me that the ak measures at least 26 inches from muzzle to tip of those prongs of the back of the receiver. 0 -
The folders have an attachment at the rear of the receiver where the stock pivots. This is more than an inch long and so brings the rifle to legal length.

right, but wouldent that have been measured even without the stock, since the receiver has prongs that stick out that far, or do they not count as part of the overall length? 0 -
thank you guys for the info. yes there will be a prong that would stick out at the rear where the stock did attached. but if i weld a muzzel extension on it should be ok? now for the silly question, can i then put a forward pistol grip on it too.
thank you very much info, i want to play, not get arrested.

There is no problem with a forward grip on a rifle, except in CA where a forward pistol grip is an assault weapon feature...keep that in mind all you Bushmaster M17 lovers. At any rate I am guessing that you hope to end up with something like my own Romanian AKM, except without the very useful butt stock.

Hey NM, buy yourself a Romanian side folder for Monday.
Overall length on folding stock rifles is measured with the stock extended.
Some states may very.

Drobs makes a very good point (and one I should have made) because many people have the mistaken notion that you must measure a folding stock rifle with the butt stock folded or retracted and then be over the 26" minimum. This is not the case because as previously stated you measure a rifle with the stock extended and as long as you have a rifle with a 16" barrel, an OAL of 26", AND the stock remains attached to the rifle (even if folded or retracted) you are in compliance. This remains an unrestricted rifle (not a short barreled NFA firearm) even if the OAL length with the stock folded or retracted goes below 26" but if you remove the butt stock completely, as Nothern Militia intends to do, you must be over 26" no matter what. Thanks Drobs.

No problem Mark. You could probably quote chapter and verse.
Come Monday, this will go on my WASR10.
