Is this legal?

There's a guy selling a rifle with a modified 30 round clip. The rifle itself isn't designed to take high-cap mags. I don't know the regulations, so I'll defer to everyone else. Thanks.

    If someone has mfg. a "high cap" mag since 1994 then they are in violation. If the modification can be proven to be prior to the "AWB" then it is not a problem.

    You can take any old 30 rounder and make it work for another type of rifle.

    Just as they have done with AK mags to have supply for SKS's.

    Converting it is ok....making big mag from scratch is bad until the 14th.

    So if I buy it, as long as I don't have it until then, I'm in the clear?

    It is only ok to modify a mag for another gun, if it still works in the original gun that it was intended for. It doesn't still fit the old gun, then you just build a new mag.

    I beg to differ Mooseyard.

    Armalite has been retro-fitting M14 mags for people since the magazine ban to fit the AR10.

    You mail them a high cap M14 mag and they rework it for the AR10.

    Perfectly legal as no new mag was created, just an old one converted for a diferent application....thus no new mag created from scratch.

    This whole mess and legal technicallity expires in a few days.

    I read this morning that congress will not even be voting on the so called "assualt weapons" ban! Just going to let the ol' dog die. Thank God for the NRA and George W. Bush!

    Red, according to the ATF if the reworked mag does not work in the original gun, then it is a newly manufactured mag. I know it is done, but it isn't legal. Just think in a few days we won't have anything to talk about.
