yes or no...can I put a banned item on ban era gun
i have read so much about this over the weekend and some of those with great knowledge on the subject write long explinations. but i must be one of those dumb rednecks the anti gunners write about because i have not seen a clear answer yet. can i legally put a banned item (collapsible stock, flash suppressor, etc.) on a gun bought during the ban? Is it now free to stay that way even if they have another ban? Surely if there is no longer a ban, a gun bought during the ban, cannot be subject to rules that no longer exist. please make your answer easy for a redneck.

If the gun is made in the USA, then you can put the banned items on it--assuming there are no laws in your state prohibiting it.
If the gun is not made in the USA, there may still be laws prohibiting you from modifying it.
You can probably get a more definite answer if you tell us what gun you want to modify, what modifications you want to do to it, and what state you're in.

Nobody can answer that question since it will depend on the wording of any new ban.

Politics, law ... especially as it (they) apply to firearms and straight simple answers just do not mix. There ain't any, and I'mm willing to be that the next set will be even harder to understand.
Think about:
Pre-1994 ban
Post-1994 ban until expiration
Post-2004 AWB expiration until, pre-Next Ban
Post-Next Ban

The ban that expired only applies to firearms ban by the 1994 ban, there were bans before that preventing putting such devices on MAK-90s and other imports. Legally, in order to put such features on those (imposed by the 1989 ban) you would have to add enough US made parts to qualify it as a US made firearm.

Put 7 to 8 USA made parts on the Mak-90 or Maadi and add the folding stock. done , legal. a USA scope mount is not considered a qualifying part!!!! 0 -
The ban doesn't exist, so "ban era" is a meaningless term. The gun you are talking about just happens to have been made in a configuration that just happened to be very popular for the past 10 years, but has suddenly fallen out of favor for the time being, and what cosmetic changes you make to your gun are perfectly legal, presuming they don't violate the NFA, GCA, etc.
